EUGENE, Ore. (WANE) – Huntington native Lauren Johnson failed to qualify for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.
Johnson competed against eleven runners at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 1,500-meter race.
She finished 8th with a time of 4:10:29. Only the top three runners advanced to Rio.
Johnson, a Huntington North and Huntington University graduate, had made a steady climb through several preliminary races.
In Sunday’s race, Johnson was out front early. But towards the end of the race she faltered, stepping off the track for a moment while in the middle of the pack. Video replay didn’t confirm if Johnson stumbled or if another runner made contact with her.
