Car veers into pond on Dupont Hospital campus

Crews were called around 3:15 p.m. to 2520 E. Dupont Road – Dupont Hospital – after a vehicle was reported in a pond on the campus.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne police and rescue crews have responded to a report of a vehicle in a pond on the campus of Dupont Hospital.

Crews were called around 3:15 p.m. to 2520 E. Dupont Road – Dupont Hospital – after a vehicle was reported in a pond on the campus.

Police at the scene told NewsChannel 15 that a mother and her daughter were in the car when, possibly due to a medical condition, the woman veered off the roadway and sped into the pond. The mother was rescued and was not hurt. Her daughter was taken away in an ambulance.

Responders could be seen in the water near a near-fully submerged dark vehicle. Only its roof was visible.

A wrecker pulled the vehicle from the pond in about 40 minutes.
