HOBART, Ind. (WANE) Police in northwest Indiana are looking into whether a man who crashed his car into a concrete barrier wall on I-65 Tuesday night and then jumped off a bridge was under the influence of narcotics.
According to Indiana State Police, Jacob N. Neino, 32, of Hobart was driving north on I-65 between I-80/90 and I-80/94 when he crashed his Chevy Sonic into the concrete wall. A witness told police the Sonic was traveling at a high rate of speed. Two female passengers said Heino got out of the car after the crash and then jumped off the east side of the bridge.
Troopers estimate Heino fell about 42 feet and remained conscious despite suffering numerous injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Neither of the passengers was injured.
Investigators are awaiting toxicology tests to determine whether Heino was under the influence of narcotics.
