Crews fight another vacant house fire in Blackhawk neighborhood

A second fire damaged a vacant home at 7330 Blackhawk Lane.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Firefighters battled another vacant house fire in northeast side neighborhood that has seen many in the past few months. The vacant house in particular has already caught on fire before.

Crews were called to the Blackhawk neighborhood at 3:11 a.m. Wednesday. When crews arrived to 7330 Blackhawk Lane, they found flames coming from the back of the house extending into the second floor and attic.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department said firefighters couldn’t enter the building because it sustained damage in a previous fire. No one was hurt.

Firefighters brought the flames under control nearly an hour and a half later. The home was heavily damaged from fire, water and smoke.

It’s just one of more than a dozen vacant house fires since April. Another house in the Blackhawk neighborhood has also caught on fire twice.

The string of fires aren’t exclusive to the Blackhawk area. Fires at home on Oakhurst Drive and one on Walden Run are believed to be connected to the Blackhawk fires.

Fire Department officials believe arson is the cause of the fires, but they are still investigating. The cause of the Blackhawk Lane fire is unknown, but it is being investigated as suspicious because of the other fires.
