1 dead in Kosciusko County house fire

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – One person was found dead inside a house that caught fire near Yellow Creek Lake, according to a statement from the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

Firefighters were called to the 8600 block of South Valentine Road around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Crews from the Seward Township Burket Volunteer Fire Department arrived and found the home fully engulfed in flames. They were only able to attack the fire from the outside.

Firefighters found a badly burned body inside the home once they extinguished the flames and began an investigation.

At this time, there is no word on what caused the fire or if the person died in the fire.

Investigators have not released the identity of the person found in the home.

The body was transported to Fort Wayne where an autopsy will be performed to determine an exact cause and manner of death and to make a positive identification.

Kosciusko County Coroner Anthony Ciriello said multiple agencies are conducting an investigation.

A cause of the fire has not been determined.

Ciriello said additional information about the investigation will be released as it becomes available.
