FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW baseball standout Greg Kaiser has been named to the 2016 ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region First Team as voted by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. This is the second consecutive year that Kaiser has been chosen for the first team honor.
The redshirt-senior shortstop started 58 of 58 games this season, hitting .313 with 17 home runs, three triples, 20 doubles, 39 runs and 49 RBIs. Kaiser posted a .644 slugging percentage and a .372 on base percentage with 12-15 stolen bases. He led the Mastodons in home runs, doubles, RBIs, total bases (150, a season record), slugging percentage, multiple RBI games (14) and fielding assists (168). Kaiser also led the Summit League in homers, total bases and slugging percentage … and led all Division I shortstops in home runs through the regular season. He holds the IPFW career record for total bases (363), as well. He previously earned 2016 All-Summit League First Team, Summit League Championship All-Tournament Team and Summit League Academic All-League Team honors.
IPFW finished 2016 with a school-record of 33-26, its first 30-win season, fifth 25-win season and 12th 20-win season in program history. In addition to the school-record 33 wins, the Mastodons posted their first back-to-back winning seasons since 1998-99, winning 20 of their final 27 games. A late 12-game winning streak catapulted IPFW into its second-straight Summit League Tournament championship game appearance.
This also marks the third-straight season that IPFW has been represented on the All-Region Team at shortstop, as former Mastodon Kristian Gayday was a second team pick in 2014. The selection process is led by the ABCA’s NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
