Hundreds of homes, hotel and restaurants in works for north side

Plans are underway to build a hotel, hundreds of homes and businesses on the city's north side.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The city’s north side is being eyed by developers.

Plans to build a 244 lot subdivision, spanning 97 acres off of Coldwater Road were submitted to the Planning Department Tuesday. The neighborhood will be called Fox Hollow, according to the project plans. Right next to it there are plans for 65 more homes on 70 acres.

A few miles away on Diebold Road there are plans to build a 160 room hotel.

“Which could be anywhere from a Hilton to a high-class hotel and the idea behind that was to service the Parkview Hospital,” commercial real estate broker Denny Worman said.

That’s not all, plans for upscale restaurants and fitness center in that area are also in the works. Worman said the driving force sits right across the street from where the new businesses will go.

“Parkview Hospital is the heart of this area,” Worman said. “It’s creating a lot of jobs, creating a lot of activity. We’ve got a new cancer center going in. That’s actually driven a lot of new customers in, driven  a lot of new businesses here and it’s going to continue that way, so the job and employment levels are going to continue to climb in our area.”

Worman said the city’s north side is booming and it’s just getting started.

“It’s continuing to grow. It’s not going to stop. We’ve just seen the beginning of the whole thing that’s happening,” Worman said.

The Plan Commission will hold a public meeting about the projects July 14.
