LEO, Ind. (WANE) – Leo’s first trip to regionals in 4A was a smashing success as the Lions rode some hot bats and the right arm of Brooke Imel to defeat Homestead 8-0 on Tuesday night.
Leo opened the scoring in the bottom the third thanks an Abbie Heischman bunt that plated Madeline MacDonald. Alexa Allen and Heischman would score later in the inning on a double-steal as the Lions built a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth the Lions broke the game open with Imel’s two-run double doing to most damage.
On the mound, Imel – an IPFW signee – threw 6.1 innings and struck out nine to earn the win. Homestead’s Madisen Parker took the loss for the Spartans.
Leo plays Munster at 1 p.m. this Saturday at the Harrison (West Lafayette) semistate.
