LAKE JAMES, Ind. (WANE) – High temperatures over Memorial Day weekend were in the upper 80s. That’s the hottest Memorial Day we’ve had in 4 years, and it’s great news for residents, visitors, and business owners around our local lakes. The sunshine and heat brought even more people out than expected. One local business, The Waterfront Bistro, ran out of food because they had so many customers. Executive Chef and General Manager Michael McClure estimates they served several hundred customers before they were forced to close early. Both the owner and general manager were prepared for a typical holiday weekend, but this Memorial Day far exceeded their expectations.
Another local business, The Corner Landing, says the three busiest weekends on the lake are Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Normally the Fourth is the biggest holiday, but store manager Kirk Bowers says this Memorial Day even rivals some past Fourth of July’s. Not only was it a great weekend for boaters and swimmers, but also for those looking to fish, Bowers said. He mentioned that the fish like the warmer weather too, and that blue gill and bass are biting right now.
Both businesses and residents said they hope the warm weather and popularity of the lake continue through the rest of the summer.
