Dwenger can’t hold on in 3-2 loss at Fairfield

GOSHEN, Ind. (WANE) – Bishop Dwenger took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t hold on as the Saints fell to Fairfield 3-2 in regional softball play on Tuesday night.

The Saints scored in third on an RBI triple from Kristina Burkhardt. Burkhardt later scored on a bunt by teammate Taya Andrews in the top of the sixth to build a 2-0 lead.

The Falcons responded in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of some Dwenger miscues to score three runs – two of them unearned – to take a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.

Fairfield will now take on Kankakee Valley in semistate play at Twin Lakes this Saturday at 11 a.m.
