One man killed, one woman hurt in Memorial Day shooting

Police were called to a shooting in the 2500 block of Brooklyn on Memorial Day.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  Police are investigating a shooting Monday night that killed a man and left a woman in serious condition.

Officers and medics were called at about 10:30 p.m. to the 2500 block of Brooklyn Avenue on a report of shots fired. As officers arrived, 911 calls indicated there was a shooting.

Police found the victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived on the scene to give the victims medical attention before taking them to a hospital.

The man was transported in critical condition when he arrived. Shortly after arriving, he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the victims were outside the back of a home when a man fired several shots. The shooter fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.

Fort Wayne Police Public Information Officer John Chambers says no arrests have been made in the investigation.

The name of the man who died will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Police say the name of the woman will be released at a later time.

The police department, Coroner’s Office and Allen County Prosecutors Office are continuing to investigate.
