FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Northrop, Bellmont, Adams Central, and Manchester each clinched a sectional baseball title on Monday afternoon on a Memorial Day loaded with championship games.
There was plenty of drama in 4A at Charger Field as Carroll led Northrop 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth. The Bruins reeled off a 7-0 rally with Jordan Wixom’s go-ahead two-run double the biggest blow as Northrop came from behind to win 7-2 for the program’s first sectional title since 2004.
Northrop advances to face Carmel in regional play Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lafayette Jeff.
In 3A action the NE8 champion Braves added another trophy to the trophy case as Bellmont topped conference rival Norwell 8-1. The Braves now face Delta in regional play at Bellmont at 1 p.m. Saturday.
2A sectional play at Adams Central saw the Jets beat Canterbury 7-2 for the sectional crown. The Jets advance to regional play at 11 a.m. on Saturday when they will face Bremen, as Bremen defeated Westview 7-6 in 10 innings on Monday to win the sectional title at Westview High School.
For the first time since 2005 the Manchester baseball program brought home a sectional title as the Squires defeated Oak Hill 7-4 in the 2A sectional title game at Wabash on Monday. The Squires now face Frankton at 1 p.m. at the Wabash regional next Saturday.
