Authorities say nearly 800 pigs killed in Ohio barn fire

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Logan County say nearly 800 pigs, most of them young, have been killed in a barn fire.

WHIO-TV reports that firefighters from eight jurisdictions responded late Friday night to reports of a large barn fire.

Police say 72 sows and more than 700 piglets died.

Firefighters say the blaze spread to an adjacent barn, and some hogs in it suffered burns but are expected to survive.

An electrical cause is suspected, but the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported to firefighters.
