Fire crews were called just after 11 a.m. to Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing at 3811 Parnell Ave. on a report of a fire there. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a patient’s room and an exterior door, according to a report.

By the time firefighters made their way inside with a hose, the center’s sprinkler system had extinguished the fire, the report said. The building was left with moderate smoke, water and fire damage.

As firefighters responded, around 50 residents and staff evacuated. The group gathered in a parking lot just outside the building, many in wheelchairs.
