Sweet Aviation expands its footprint at Smith Field

Fort Wayne Ind. (WANE) Sweetwater Aviation will hold its annual Spring Open House at its facilities at Smith Field in Fort Wayne.

A free breakfast will be served. Helicopter and airplane rides will be available for just $20.

The event is from 8-11 Saturday morning, May 21st.

In addition, the business will be showing off its brand new 10,000 square foot hangar. The hangar will allow for more space for Sweet Aviation to store planes, do maintenance work and grow its flight school.

The flight school continues to gain interest from prospective students. For those that are curious about becoming a pilot or would just like the experience of flying a plane, the school offers what is called a “Discovery Flight.”

For $79 a person can get behind the controls of plane, and with the aid of an instructor guide the plane down the runway, takeoff and fly around the area.

The flight portion of the “Discovery Flight” lasts around 30 minutes, but additional time is spent familiarizing the client with the airplane, controls and FAA requirements needed if the individual is interested in getting a pilots license
