Muhammed, Bruins cruise to sectional track title

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Northrop girls won the 25th sectional title in program history as the Bruins topped the field at Spuller Stadium on Tuesday.

Northrop tallied 168 points besting second place Carroll (130.5) and third place Bishop Dwenger (74.5).

Kyara Muhammed helped lead the way for Northrop. She came in first in the 300 meter hurdles, the long jump, and the high jump.

Teammate Breanna Phillips also excelled for the Bruins, winning the 400 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles.

Phillips and Muhammed teamed with Jo’deci Irby and Aliyah Jones to win the 4×1400 relay.

Jones, Kamiyah Earley, Ivee Nguyen, and Cierra Weems also won the 4×100.

Northrop took first place in the pole vault with Lauren Wagner clearing ten feet even. Alicia Tiney-Williams won the shot put for Northrop and came in second in the discus.

Regionals are next Tuesday down at Indiana Wesleyan.
