‘Leave it to Beaver’ star speaks at Indiana Tech commencement

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) As students from Indiana Tech graduated Saturday, they heard a message from American television icon, Jerry Mathers.

Mathers is better known as ‘The Beaver’ from the television series “Leave it to Beaver.”

The show ran for six season into early 60s and has been in syndication ever since. Mathers has continued to act, including making his Broadway debut in 2007 in the musical “Hairspray.”

Mathers focused his commencement address on potential.

“What matters is believing in your potential. You can do it,” he told the group of graduates. “Light tomorrow with knowledge you gained from this journey called college. Keep believing in your potential and that of the others around you. Don’t chase money, but instead find your passion in a unique way of serving the world. Always have hope.”
