Fire damages Calhoun Street building

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A fire damaged a building just south of downtown Fort Wayne Friday night.

Crews were called to the 2000 block of Calhoun around 9:30 p.m. on a report of a fire in the apartment above Expo Hair & Nails, next to Saigon Restaurant.

When they got to the scene, firefighters found fire and smoke coming from the second floor. The flames were concentrated in one room and were under control in 17 minutes.

There was heavy fire and smoke damage with moderate water damage left behind.

One person was inside at the time but was not injured.

Calhoun Street was blocked off near Williams Street while firefighters battled the fire. The road has since been re-opened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
