Saturday is International Free Comic Book Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Summit Sports, Comics and Games at Jefferson Pointe celebrated a big day for the comic book industry on Saturday: International free comic book day.

It’s one of thousands of stores around the world participating in the 15th annual event.

It all started in 2001 when a comic book retailer in California saw the success of comic-based movies and decided to expose moviegoers to the stories and illustrations that inspired the movies.

An estimated 5-point-five million comic books will be given away today.
