FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Members of the Republican Party know who will run to fill Marlin Stutzman’s congressional seat in the fall.
Indiana State Senator Jim Banks grab the GOP nomination for the 3rd district Tuesday night.
Banks came out on top with 34% of the vote. He was followed by Kip Tom who got 31% of the vote and Liz Brown who saw 25%.
“Each of my opponents worked hard. They were worthy opponents,” Banks said. “All of them brought great attributes to this race and qualifications so it makes it more of an honor and humbling to be the nominee.”
Stutzman gave up the position to run for Indiana’s senate seat. He lost that nomination to Todd Young.
Banks will now focus on the general election. He’ll face Democratic Nominee Tommy Schrader.
“This primary election was so unique,” Banks added. “The substantial increase in Republican primary voters voting for the presidential race. So it’s an unpredictable election cycle which means we have to continue to work really hard until November and not take it for granted.”
