FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Police have arrested a man suspected striking a subcontractor along Interstate 469, critically hurting him, then driving off on Monday.
Allen County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Steve Stone said Roger Caley, 64, of New Haven was arrested on two counts of leaving the scene of a crash.
Caley is accused being the driver of a red Ford pickup truck that hit a state highway subcontractor who was working on I-469 around 11:30 a.m. and continued driving. Investigators said the worker was moving traffic control barricades when he was hit.
Witnesses gave a description of the truck to deputies, who then later picked up Caley in New Haven. Stone said his truck had front end damage consistent with the crash.
The worker was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition as of Tuesday, according to Stone.
The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
