Coffee with a Cop brings the community together

A woman attending Coffee with a Cop shakes hands with an Indiana State Police officer on April 23, 2016.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Coffee with a Cop Returned to Fort Wayne Sunday. The event allows community members to come meet police officers, ask them questions, and learn more about the departments they work for.

Officers from multiple agencies, including Indiana State Police, Fort Wayne Police, Allen County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana Conservation Officers were at the event talking to residents about a variety of topics.

The open forum was hosted at Come as You Are Community Church.

One church leader said it’s important for the community and police officers to connect.

“The community needs to know that our cops are people too. That they have families, that they have lives and that they matters,” First Lady Sandra Payton at Come as You Are Community Church said. “This is just a way for us to connect with them, and bond with them, and for them to come out and see what we’re doing and hey, we’re community partners. We all need each other to make this a great place to live.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative. There are events similar to this scheduled throughout the year.
