FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW redshirt-senior baseball shortstop Greg Kaiser/Fort Wayne has been named The Summit League Player of the Week for his performance April 11-17. Kaiser hit .647 (11-17) in four games, all wins for the Mastodons, including a three-game Summit League road sweep at Western Illinois. At WIU this past weekend, Greg hit .692 (9-13) with five home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, nine runs, three walks and two stolen bases. He had 26 total bases for a 2.000 slugging percentage, along with a .750 on-base percentage during the three games.
Kaiser was also one of seven players (only two position players) named as Louisville Slugger® National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper for his efforts last week.
Kaiser was 3-5 with six RBIs while hitting three two-run home runs to lead IPFW to a 9-1 series-opening win at WIU, followed by a 3-5 effort with three RBIs while hitting a two-run homer, a solo homer and a double (along with a walk) to lead IPFW to an 11-5 win in game two of the series, followed by a 3-3 day with one RBI while hitting a double and two singles (along with two walks and two stolen bases) to lead IPFW to an 8-1 victory in the series finale at WIU. He began his week with a 2-4 effort, including two singles, during a 1-0 home win against Butler April 13 in non-league action. Kaiser was also perfect in 18 chances (four putouts, 18 assists) in the field this past week. His five home runs in two days surpassed his season total (four) through the first 33 games, and now leads the team with nine home runs.
IPFW (17-19) will host the University of Saint Francis Wednesday, April 20, at 3 p.m. at Mastodon Field in Fort Wayne.
