2 people spend hours inside vehicle after rollover crash

Investigators said the SUV was traveling between 97 and 107 mph

The Noble County Sheriff's Department responded to a crash involving this SUV Saturday April 16, 2016.

AVILLA, Ind. (WANE) – Authorities said two people were injured in a crash reported nearly eight hours after it rolled into a ditch near Avilla.

The passenger in the vehicle told investigators he believed the crash happened shortly after leaving Fort Wayne sometime between 10 and 11 p.m. Friday.

According to the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, around 6:40 a.m. Saturday deputies responded to SR 3 and E Baseline Road, about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne.

A deputy said the driver, Jordan Cronin, 27, was trapped in the SUV after the crash and flown to a Fort Wayne hospital with injuries. Though, the extent of those injuries is not clear. The passenger, Michael Willits Jr., 31, suffered abrasions on his side.

Investigators determined the SUV was headed north on SR 3, traveling between 97 and 107 mph, when it went into the median. The driver then over corrected, crossed the northbound lanes and rolled into the ditch.
