Baer Field opens 53rd racing season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Baer Field Motorsports Park opened its 53rd season Saturday at the famed track near Fort Wayne International Airport.

Thousands attended opening night ceremonies Saturday afternoon under near-perfect racing conditions. Saturday was dubbed “Fan Appreciation and Opening Day 2016.”

Racing got underway around 4:30 p.m. and included a lineup of street stocks, modifieds, late models and others.

The track is located at 4331 Winters Road.

Promoter Dave Muzzillo says many new ideas and projects have come together for the 2016 racing season. Asphalt racing started Saturday and dirt track racing will start in May.

Saturday racing runs through August, with gates opening around 2:30 p.m. for most events. Ticket prices vary.
