CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee the team announced on Friday.
Schwarber was injured Thursday night during a violent collision in the outfield with teammate Dexter Fowler during a game in Arizona. The injury was originally diagnosed as a sprained ankle, but an MRI on Friday revealed more damage.
Schwarber, a former Indiana University standout, hit .242 with 16 home runs in 69 games last year.
He expected to be a big part of Chicago’s offense this summer, with the Cubs considered a favorite to reach the World Series.
