FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Homestead Spartans set the bar high for the season when Alex Bradtmiller and Jack Parisi combined for a no hitter in a 10-0 win over North Side in game number one. High expectations are nothing new for a Homestead baseball team that’s collected seven sectional titles, three regional championships and one trip to the state championship in the last decade.
Under first year head coach, Nick Byall, the Spartans are 2-2 this season. They went 1-2 in a weekend tournament in Vincennes.
Homestead’s two wins are highlighted by stellar pitching from senior Alex Bradtmiller. The IU South Bend commit threw four perfect innings in the no-hitter on opening day and picked up his second win on Saturday over Gibson Southern. In two games Bradtmiller has struck out 19 batters.
The Spartans return to work on Thursday visiting Mishawaka Marian.
