V.J Beachem talks March Madness and future at Notre Dame

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – V.J Beachem became one of the breakout stars of this year’s NCAA tournament. His sharp shooting and impressive dunks catapulted the New Haven grad to the top of everyone’s watch and led Notre Dame to their second straight trip to the Elite 8.

Beachem averaged 17.5 points per game and shot 55% from three point range during Notre Dame’s tournament run.

“I was a little bit disappointed with my performance last year in the tournament. This year I wanted to make the most out of it,” Beachem told WANE-TV.

One of V.J’s most memorable moments in the tournament came in their loss to North Carolina in the Elite 8. In the first half Beacehm threw down a dunk so hard it made teammate Zach Auguste nearly faint on the bench.

As far as who V.J has winning the National Championship. he is sticking with ACC and going with North Carolina.

Watching teammate Demetrius Jackson declare for the NBA has made Beacehm consider heading to the pros as well.

“I haven’t made up my mind just yet on that one. I’ve talked with Mike Brey about it. With the new rule I can really put my name out there and get good feedback and see where I stand right now. And not hiring an agent I can still go back to school. And if I do decide to not go that route and stay in school it’s just coming back to get my degree at Notre Dame. It’s something I’ve always dreamed about. And then just pushing one last time to get to the Final Four.”
