FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Congressman Marlin Stutzman (R-3rd District) toured the St. Joseph’s Hospital Burn Center Thursday afternoon.
Stutzman’s friend, local car dealer Tom Kelley, spent several days in the burn center after having a reaction to a prescribed drug last year. The reaction to the drug happened after a shoulder replacement surgery. Dr. Brian Youn at the burn center was able to diagnose Kelley with the rare Stevens-Johnson syndrome and treat him. Since then Kelley has donated $100,000 to the unit.
Kelley was with Stutzman during the tour as they learned about the technology and services available to treat patients.
St. Joseph’s burn treatment program is one of only three verified burn centers in Indiana and the only one in northeast Indiana. Recognized by The New York Times for its work in skin grafting and transplantation, the facility offers the most sophisticated burn treatment available within 150 miles of Fort Wayne.
Stutzman is running against Todd Young for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat.
