FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Rebuilding continues five months after a massive fire destroyed Lazer X in Fort Wayne.
Construction workers were seen working on the shell of a new building on the Fernhill Avenue property Friday.
The original structure was razed after fire gutted the building. The new building is rising on the same spot as the original one.
Even while the fire was burning back in November, the Lazer X staff was discussing the rebuilding plans.
During the month of March, workers were constructing the frame of the building and setting up the electrical system and plumbing.
In the weeks ahead, the work will shift to the interior, which will be a new version of the old environment. Lazer X General Manager Tim Kintz said the staff still wants the customers to feel like they are in another world.
Kintz also said there has been a lot of support since the fire. “It was overwhelming. I’m sure if a lot of business, if they burnt, people really wouldn’t care. But this is a hometown business.”
Kintz added, “actually, this year is our 20th year, so we wanted to make sure we were here for the community, and they’ve been here for us.”
An exact reopening date has not yet been set, but the staff hopes to have the doors open in June.
