LEO, Ind. (WANE) – Rather than hang their heads after losing the city championship to Carroll, the Leo hockey team used the loss as motivation that propelled them to their third state title in six years.
Connor Bonecutter’s goal in triple overtime gave Leo a 3-2 win over Penn in the 3A state champinoship on March 12th.
The road to the state championship game was paved with uncertainty for Leo . The Lions finished pool play in a three way tie with Westfield and Bloomington. Leo was able to advance to the championship game winning the goal differential tie breaker, outscoring opponents 16-11.
This is head coach Rick Wynn’s first season with the program.
