MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A central Indiana man who pleaded guilty to brutally attacking his ex-girlfriend, leaving her bloodied and begging neighbors for help, has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Twenty-four-year-old Justin Charles Culverhouse was sentenced Monday in Delaware Circuit Court after pleading guilty to aggravated battery in the September 2014 attack.
The Star Press reports that the victim, bleeding from head wounds, fled Culverhouse’s apartment to another building where she screamed for help. Officers found a blood-covered meat cleaver in Culverhouse’s apartment, along with an aluminum baseball bat.
The victim told officers that Culverhouse had repeatedly struck her in the head with a blunt object and twice choked her to near unconsciousness.
Police said Culverhouse used a butcher knife also found at the scene to cut his wrist.
