Traffic stop leads to meth bust, 2 arrested

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A traffic stop in LaGrange County lead to a meth bust for the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, a sheriff’s deputy pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation on County Road 750 and Country Road 920 West.

A department report said the deputy suspected the driver and passenger of criminal activity. K-9 Officer Hunter was brought to the scene and did a “free air sniff.” Investigators said Hunter gave an indication for the odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle and occupants discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to the department.

Ricky L. Kindig, 46 ,Elkhart, and Tonya R. Watkins, 34, Elkhart, were found to have about ten grams of methamphetamine, numerous items of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.

Both were taken to jail.

Kindig was initially charged with dealing methamphetamine, visiting a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia. Watkins was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

The incident is under investigation.
