FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Back by popular demand, the Rib Room is open for business again. The restaurant along Fort Wayne’s East State corridor reopened Thursday afternoon.
Owners of Nick’s Martini and Wine Bar, Chris Kurt and Matt Henry, made the decision to reopen the Rib Room after the brothers said there was an outpouring of demand from the public. It closed last October.
The Henry brothers bought the Rib Room’s building back in 2014 from the Filippou family, which has owned the Rib Room since it opened in 1957. The Henry brothers opened Nick’s Martini and Wine Bar next door, while the Rib Room continued selling barbecued ribs through its carryout counter.
About a year after selling the building, the Filippou family decided to close the restaurant. Manager Christina Fillippou said her father, owner Sam Filippou, planned to retire and explained the family could not continue operating the restaurant.
The brothers transformed the space before opening. The highlight, though, is an elevated bar with a 16-tap draft system, the restaurant said in a previous Facebook post. The fresh bar menu will have a “strong bourbon focus,” the post also included.

The kitchen will be run by local chef Christopher Hartwig. The restaurant said his updated menu will marry the Rib Room’s classics with new items like gourmet burgers, expanded barbecue offerings and new twists on the original Rib Room staples. The fresh restaurant is still the Rib Room, however, with prime steaks, ribs and seafood.
