Columbia City looking for regional crown at Marion

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) – Columbia City will be looking to earn the program’s seventh regional title on Saturday in Marion as the Eagles will square off with the host Giants at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.

It will be a battle of contrasting styles as Columbia City’s defense yields only 44.5 points (third-best in 3A) while Marion’s offense boasts an average of 73.1 points a night (third-best in 3A).

Columbia City last won a regional title during the 2010-11 season.

The Eagles will be led by the 6-foot-7 Hazen brothers in senior Brachen and junior Parker. Brachen has signed to play college basketball at the University of Central Florida and will be a candidate for the Indiana All-Star team. He’s averaging 16.1 points and 9.3 rebounds a game while Parker is putting up 15.8 points and 6.6 rebounds a night. Brachen also leads the team in assists, steals, and blocks. Cooper Parish added 7.6 points a game.

Marion is led by seniors Vijay Blackmon & Reggie Jones and junior Tim Leavell. Jones, a six-foot-six swingman, has committed to the University of New Orleans. Jones averages 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Blackmon scores 17.8 points a game while Leavell leads the team at 18.6 points per game.

The winner of the Columbia City/Marion game will take on the winner of the Angola/NorthWood game at 8 p.m. for the regional title on Saturday night.
