CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) — An Indiana man who police say confessed to killing seven women is now charged with murder in each of the deaths.
Lake County prosecutors charged 44-year-old Darren Vann on Monday in the slayings of Teaira Batey, Tracy Martin, Kristine Williams, Sonya Billingsley and Tanya Gatlin.
He already faced murder charges in the strangulation deaths of Afrikka Hardy and Anith Jones. The (Munster) Times reports prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in all seven cases.
One of Vann’s attorneys, Gojko Kasich, said he has not yet seen the court documents and could not comment on the case.
Vann was arrested Oct. 18, 2014, a day after Hammond officers found the 19-year-old Hardy strangled to death in a motel room. The other bodies were found in abandoned buildings across Gary.
