Decatur driver, 21, killed in Adams County crash

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A Decatur man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night.

According to a news release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers received a 911 call at 6:06 p.m. about a traffic crash on Winchester Road north of CR 550 North. When emergency crews arrived on the scene they found a single vehicle crashed and the driver, dead.

That driver was identified Thursday as 21-year-old Douglas E. Carvey of Decatur. The Adams County coroner said Carvey died of multiple blunt force trauma.

An Adams County crash report detailed that Carvey had been southbound on Winchester Road in his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he misjudged a curve and went off the roadway. The Jeep then straightened out before leaving the other side of the roadway and veering into a roadside ditch, the report said.

The SUV then slid broadside into a tree, spun and struck more trees on the passenger side, the report said.

The car was damaged from several different directions, the report said.

Investigators estimated the Jeep was traveling between 66 and 77 mph before the crash, the report said.

No other people were in the vehicle.

The Adams County Coroner and Indiana State Police are also investigating the crash. The Preble Fire Department, Monroe Rescue, Adams County EMS and Indiana State Police all assisted on the scene.
