ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Traffic restrictions will resume on Interstate 469 Saturday while crews work on a pavement replacement project.
Mile marker 6 through 13, State Road 1 through Marion Center Road exits, will be restricted to one lane in each direction to allow contractors to prepare the road for an upcoming traffic shift.
Later this spring, all traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes, with one 11-foot lane open in each direction, to allow contractors to construct the eastbound lanes. At that time, the Winchester Road eastbound ramps will be closed. The project involves the total removal of concrete pavement from the lanes and shoulders, followed by the placement of asphalt and rehabilitation of three bridges.
INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through an active construction zone. The speed limit through the construction zone will be reduced to 55 mph, and lowered to 45 mph when crews are present. Motorists should be on the lookout for flashing speed limit signs throughout the work zone.
The project, which is in the second year of a two-year contract, was awarded to Primco for $24.4 million.
