FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Tied at 57 with seconds ticking away on the clock, Homestead’s Tahj Curry nailed a buzzer beating three point shot to lead the Spartans to a 60-57 over rival Carroll for the SAC Championship.
The reigning 4A state champions were not expected to win the SAC in their first season playing in the conference after losing McDonald’s All-American and three other starters from last year’s team. The league’s newbies tied with other newcomer Carroll at 8-1 but took the title over the Chargers thanks to a head-to-head tie breaker.
The Spartans are now 15-5 this season. They host DeKalb and Norwell for their final two games of the regular season before starting their quest to defend their state title March 1st playing Huntington North in the first round of the Huntington North sectional.
