GRANT CO., Ind (WANE) – Witnesses told police a man was speeding into an intersection before dying in a crash, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Police responded to the single vehicle crash Monday at about 6 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 26 and County Road 275 East.
Two witnesses told officers they were both traveling on SR 26 approaching CR 275 E. They saw a white vehicle going south on the county road at a high rate of speed. Investigators said the vehicle didn’t stop at the intersection or slow down, according to witnesses.
The white car went air born across the road, hitting one vehicle and continued on the road. Then, it went off the road and flipped two times, ejecting the driver. The vehicle stopped in a field.
Grant County Coroner Chris Butche identified the driver as 41-year-old Joseph Byrd, of Gas City. Butche pronounced him dead at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate that crash and will determine if alcohol was a factor. Nobody else was hurt in the crash.
