FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW redshirt-freshman men’s basketball guard John Konchar/Chicago, Ill. has been named The Summit League Player of the Week for his performance February 15-21. Konchar posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds during a 91-79 win against South Dakota State Feb. 18, and followed with his 11th collegiate double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds in a 94-90 win against Omaha Feb. 20.
For the week, he averaged 20.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 68% (13-19) from the field and 93% (14-15) at the free throw line, adding six assists and two steals. This is his second Summit League Player of the Week award this season after previously earning the honor on January 25.
Konchar has started all 29 games this season, averaging 35.1 minutes, 12.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He is shooting 60% (138-232) from the field, 46% (24-52) on three-point field goals and 73% (69-94) at the free throw line, adding eight blocks and 49 steals. Konchar is the team leader in field goal percentage, rebounds (255, 8th-best all-time), rebound average, offensive rebounds (73-2.5), defensive rebounds (182-6.3) and steals. He has posted 20 double-figure scoring games, including three-straight, along with four 20-point games and has led the team in scoring two times, rebounding 20 times and assists five times. Konchar has a team-best 11 double-doubles, including two-straight, and has thrown down a team-best 29 dunks on the campaign.
IPFW, locked into a top two seed for the upcoming Summit League Tournament March 5-8, will play at Western Illinois Thursday, Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. and at IUPUI Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
