Home burns to ground in early morning fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A residence was destroyed early Monday morning in a neighborhood between Illinois Road and West Jefferson Blvd. Firefighters were called to the home at around 5:15 a.m. in the 4800 block of Ridgelane Drive.

According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department, flames were visible four blocks away. The crews that first got to the home engulfed in flames with a partial roof collapse in the center of the building.

Firefighters protected the houses on each side of the burning residence and then started to extinguish the flames. It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, fire investigators said.

The house was a total loss. It suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage. The siding of neighboring homes were damaged from the flames.

It’s not known yet was caused the fire. No one was inside the home when the fire started. There were no injuries.
