WELT-FM hits the air waves with fanfare

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Access Fort Wayne, a department of the Allen County Public Library, began broadcasting on WELT-FM 95.7 on Tuesday.

Dozens gathered at the library Tuesday afternoon for the official launch of the low-power station. WELT makes the local library the only in the United States with a low-power station.

WELT will broadcast music programs from a wide variety of genres and cultures. During weather related emergencies, the station will interrupt its regular broadcasting schedule to provide up to date emergency preparedness information to listeners in Allen County.

WELT’s mission is “to challenge the cultural and intellectual assumptions of our listeners through unique and diverse programming.”

The FCC granted the permit for the low-power station which will send its signal out in a radius of nearly 15 miles from its tower located at IPFW.
