Fort Wayne’s Davis shines on big stage

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WANE) – Rapheal Davis isn’t known for his offensive skills, but the Boilermaker senior didn’t shy away from the spotlight on Tuesday night netting 24 points as 18th-ranked Purdue upset no. 8 Michigan State 82-81 in overtime.

Davis exploded offensively in the first half, netting 19 of his team-high 24 points in the first 20 minutes. He hit five three’s in the first half alone to help the Boilers build a 16-point lead at the break.

While Purdue squandered an 18-point second-half lead, Davis came up clutch in overtime, sinking the decisive free throw to a break the tie with 4.6 seconds left.

The reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Davis played his first three seasons of high school ball in Fort Wayne at South Side before suiting for private school LaLumiere as a senior.

Davis is averaging 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this season.
