Passenger dies days after rollover crash

Police had been pursuing the vehicle before it crashed last Thursday on Nuttman Avenue

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A passenger in a car that flipped after going over railroad tracks last week has died, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Deputy Coroner Patt Kite said Monday morning that Kierra J. Kitts, 20, died Friday at a hospital as a result of injuries she suffered in the crash last Thursday. Kitts was in the car that crashed in the 2900 block of Nuttman Avenue after a police chase. Kite said she was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.

The driver of the car has not been identified. He was hospitalized in critical condition after the crash and then later upgraded to serious condition by doctors.

At the time of the crash, Fort Wayne Police Department spokesperson Jeremy Webb said alcohol and high speeds were contributing factors in the crash, noting that car’s speed going down Nuttman Avenue reached more than 80 mph.

Kitts is the fifth traffic death in Allen County for 2016, according to the coroner’s office.

The crash remains under investigation by the FWPD and other agencies.
