Landis nets Summit League POTW honor after record-setting performance

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW redshirt-senior men’s basketball guard Max Landis/Indianapolis (Perry Meridian) has been named The Summit League Player of the Week for his performance February 1-7.  It’s his second-straight and league-best fourth time being awarded Player of the Week this season, and the fifth time in his two-year career.  Landis led the Mastodons to a 95-82 road win at South Dakota Feb. 4 with a school-record 44 points, making 15-21 from the field, including a school-record 11-15 three-point field goals and 3-5 free throws.  The 44 points ties the fifth-highest total in Division I this season, and is the sixth-most ever in a Summit League game, while the 11 three-pointers are the second-most in Division I this year, and tie the Summit League record.  In two games last week, he averaged 26.5 points with 12 three-pointers.  Landis previously won the weekly honor on Dec. 29, Jan. 19 and Feb. 1 of this season as well as last Feb. (2015).

Landis has started all 25 games he has played for IPFW (19-7, 8-3 Summit League) this season, averaging 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 36.8 minutes.  He is shooting 46% (141-304) from the field, including 49% (92-189) on three-pointers and 80% (88-110) at the free throw line, while adding 23 steals.  Landis is the team leader in points (462), scoring average, field goals, field goal attempts, three-point field goals, three-point attempts, three-point percentage, free throws, free throw attempts, free throw percentage, assists (90) and minutes (920).  He has led the Mastodons in scoring 13 times and posted a team-best 23 double-figure scoring games with one 40-point game and two 30-point games among seven 20-point games.

IPFW is idle this week before hosting Denver Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne.
