Police: Gun, drugs and pills found in vehicle after traffic stop

HOWE, Ind. (WANE) – A Sturgis, Michigan man is facing several charges after a traffic stop in LaGrange County Tuesday evening.

A LaGrange County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle on State Road 9 near County Road 700 North, north of Howe around 8:30 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s department, Larry A. McKinley, 57, Sturgis, was the driver of the truck.

During the stop, Deputy Derek Baldridge found McKinley in apparent possession of approximately 4.5 grams of methamphetamine. Police also found McKinley in possession of oxycodone pills that he didn’t have a prescription for. Several items of drug paraphernalia were also found in the truck with a handgun. Police said McKinley does not have a license to carry the gun.

McKinley was taken to the LaGrange County Jail and initially charged with possession of methamphetamine with a firearm, maintaining a common nuisance, carrying a handgun without a license, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
