Family of 7 escape house fire

Fire crews fight the blaze on N Center Ct. in Columbia City.

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) A home in Columbia City caught on fire early Sunday morning.

Fire crews were called to the home on N Center Ct. shortly after 12 a.m. The first crew immediately called for extra help to fight the fire.

Two adults, five children and three pets were able to get out of the home safely.

Part of the roof collapsed during the fire, forcing crews to fight the flames from outside of the house.

Smoke was seen miles away from the neighborhood while the home was burning. The home suffered major damage.

Despite the cold weather, the firefighters did not face any difficulties with their gear.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
