Squad car hit as officer works I-69 injury crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A squad car was struck on Interstate 69 as an officer was working a crash along the highway early Tuesday.

Around 9:15 a.m., a pickup slid off the northbound lanes at the 301 milemarker, just south of Jefferson Boulevard, slammed into a guardrail and flipped. A Allen County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the crash.

As the officer was working the crash, around 9:45 a.m., a car slid into the squad car on the slick roadway.

There were no injuries reported in the second officer-involved crash. A K-9 in the squad car was checked for injuries and deemed unhurt.

In the initial slide-off, a man, a woman and a girl were all seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
