HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) A 48-year-old Florida man was killed Monday in a two-vehicle crash that closed a portion of State Road 5 in Huntington County.
Police and medics were called around 1:30 p.m. to a stretch of S.R. 5 near C.R. 100 South, south of Huntington, on a report of a crash there.
According to a police report, a pickup was traveling northbound on S.R. 5 when it crossed the center line and struck a semi driven by 44-year-old Michael Collins of Grand Bay, Alabama. The impact sent the pickup into an adjacent field, the report said.
The driver of the pickup, Steven Holley from St. Petersburg, Florida, was pinned in the vehicle. He died of blunt force injuries.
The semi’s driver suffered leg injuries and was taken to Parkview Huntington Hospital. A passenger in the semi, 27-year-old Allwell Benson of Long Beach, California, was not hurt.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
S.R. 5 was closed through the 5 p.m. hour while police cleaned the scene.
